Serious Entrepreneurs Avoid New Years Resolutions Like the Plague
Saturday, February 28th, 2009
There are no serious entrepreneurs who have not made New Year’s resolutions.
Check out the latest stats – 30% of all New Year’s resolutions are broken within the first week. Not too promising, is it?
Why then do serious entrepreneurs make these New Year’s resolutions? Only because they are die-hard optimists?
However, I tried and tossed out some New Year’s resolutions in 2009, just for the heck of it. Why don’t I try to become a star baseball player? Better said than done! Why don’t I start writing a book? But who will read it? Why don’t I quit smoking? And redefine life itself? Definitely not! Maybe improve my business a bit? That may not be a bad idea!
After taking a 90-Day Challenge online marketing course for serious entrepreneurs early this year and saw the impact it made on my focus and mindset, I’ve decided to challenge myself. No one-week resolutions that by next year will be long forgotten. But 90 days to meet a list of goals I made for myself:
1. The first was to take the best advantage out of the available time and money. The current year was good for business, and so I have enough resources to get some extra help. And this is the best time to get fresh recruits because economic prospects are at an all time low. If investment is to be made in men, this is the most ideal time when there is a mad scramble for getting work.
2. Know the power of the social media. Social networking substantially influences the level of success in internet marketing. Banners and blogs and PPC ads may help in increasing the business, but the ability to build up strong customer relationships can easily tilt the balance either way. Social contacts are important in the business and site visitors should preferably know the trader personally.
Using Web 2.0 and social media is a way to let potential customers that you’re a real person, not just a name and email address. And Twitter is the breakout star! It’s going to be an important way to market and stay in touch with customers in the future.
3. Monitoring is the next rule. Progress has to be tracked consistently to know where one is headed. Just a flurry of customers to the site is not the be all and end all of everything. Serious entrepreneurs’ lifeline to success is the performance chart which records the ups and downs of the business and helps him find out which is the arena where more progress is being made, and which is the one that requires a little tweaking.
Asking “what’s next” will help you come up with new ideas, new niches, and new opportunities to make more money online!
Don’t let fear of the recession guide your goal setting plans for 2009. This is a BIG mistake!
Fear is an emotional response, only good for short-term survival. When you’re in “fight or flight” mode, you’re not thinking clearly about the path you’re running… You’re just RUNNING! So your efforts lack strategy, planning, and insight.
With the type of increase in online sales that is predicted, recession does not appear to be impacting internet marketing in any big way. Online trading is believed to increase by 14%.
The current evolutionary trend is gradually making a man a computer animal for he prefers to buy and sell and choose and learn things through the medium of internet. So, internet marketing profits is also continuously on the rising curve.
So don’t let the Big “R” stop you from pursuing exciting personal, financial, and business goals in 2009. Take action!
