Recycling is a matter for all of us to participate. I read with great interest the article that I happened to find on LeighSteinber.org. It talked about how recycling is something that even our ancestors participated in as a means to ensure that they could survive with a lot less waste.
This day and age, we’re learning that the environment cannot sustain the amount of waste that we’re putting into the planet. Many of us have come to use recycle bins as second nature. In fact, many people consider trying to recycle things in recycle bins before they throw items into the garbage can.
I received a mailer from a company about 3 months ago. They prompted people to send their unused cell phones back in a postage paid mailer. The hope was to turn these perfectly good phones into usable phones for the men and women who were fighting overseas. They could use them to call their families back home.
I think that this project is a fantastic idea and hope that many more projects like that are sponsored. Its not only good for the environment, but good for the soul. You feel that you’ve at least given some value back to society, while helping save our planet.
The blog on LeighSteinberg.org had plenty of examples of recycling, including how you can turn glass into useful items for tabletops and landscaping decorations. I was reminded of a program that talked about just that idea on a cable TV channel.
Used cars are another item that people should consider recycling. There are a number of non-profit companies who will take your used car, working or not, and donate them to needy charities. In addition, used car parts are the most recycled product today, accounting for about $25 billion in revenue every year. If they weren’t recycled, can you imagine the terrible impact that these rejected items would have on our planet?
Every day were accosted with the absolute wastefulness of a hyper-linked society. Sometimes I feel that the Internet actually accentuates the problem. Were bombarded by information and digital advancements at breakneck speeds. For example, every 60 days, a new HDTV is rolled out. First it was 720P, then 1080i, 1080P and now 3D HD. This constant upgrade cycle prompts many to want the next big thing.
We’ve reached a saturation point in our society. In fact, it almost parallels the decline of America. How much can we possibly continue to consume … computers, monitors, TVs, and hey, ink cartridges are another big potential wasteful product. Just think about how many ink cartridges you’ve used in the last 90 days.
Ink cartridges, in fact, are a great example of an item which should and could be easily recycled. You have plenty of options to return it … back to the manufacturer, take it to a local retailer or even re-ink them through a dealer, either locally or through mail order. Youd be saving money and the planet!
This blog has plenty more ideas of how to recycle and what things to recycle. I think that recycling is such an important topic that we should all take it as a duty to do so and not just an afterthought. Not only is the idea a good one to save money, but it’s also great for making you feel good.
